The
National Vietnam War Museum, Inc. (NVWM) is a central
Florida nonprofit Museum operated by the Vietnam Veterans
of Central Florida, Inc. (VVCF), also a nonprofit organization
in Central Florida founded in 1982 and dedicated to assisting
the servicemen and women of all wars and branches of service.
While mainly and organization of Vietnam War and Vietnam
Era members, the VVCF welcomes all that served with Armed
Forces of the United States. Neither the VVCF nor the
NVWM are a subsidiary of any state or national organization.
Recognizing
that the tragedy of the war in southeast Asia has become
comfortably distant in the minds of many Americans, this
organization has embarked on a very ambitious undertaking;
building a war museum and Vietnam village that will bring
the people and events of this bitter, divisive conflict
to life, so that current and future generations of Americans
remember the Vietnam Veterans legacy of service, sacrifice
and valor "Rendered in good faith and for good purpose".
The museum is dedicated to future Americans, particularly
high school students, in the hope that they will better
understand the Vietnam experience and its lasting legacy.
The
museum completion includes the the first dedicated monument
to the Vietnam War Dead in the state of Florida, on it
are listed are the names of 167 young men and woman from
Orange county Florida. Also a U.S. Navy "RiveRat"
(PBR) patrol boat, restoration of a A-4 Skyhawk attack
jet, and a Huey UH-1 Dustoff Helicopter. The existing
museum center includes a room-size, to scale, firebase
recreation that was 11 years in the making and soon to
be completed and educational theater with enhanced audio
visual capabilities.
The
museum is now open to the public on a limited basis. With
the completion of our upgrade, all school students and
Americans will be able to experience specifically tailored
educational tours and historical programs. With the progress
shown in the past year and continued support from our
various assisting organizations and patrons, we march
confidently forward toward full operational status.
